Transfer a Domain from another Registrar

Transferring your domains to Vacares is a great way to keep all your web hosting needs together in one convenient place. This article gives step-by-step instructions for transferring a domain from three of the most popular domain registrars to Vacares.

Prepare the Domain for Transfer

You’ll need to complete some steps at your current registrar before the domain can be transferred out. Follow the steps for your registrar:

Unlocking the Domain

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account and navigate to Your Name > My Products.
  2. Scroll down the page to your domains and click on the name of the domain you wish to transfer.
  3. Under Additional Settings find where it says “Domain Lock: On”.
  4. Click the Edit button, then click the toggle that appears to turn the domain lock off.
  5. Check the button to consent to unlock, then click Continue.
  6. Complete the 2-step verification if prompted.

Downgrading Privacy Protection

If you have domain protection (Full or Ultimate), you’ll need to downgrade to Basic.

  1. Navigate to the Domain Settings page for the domain you wish to transfer, as above.
  2. At the top of the page, under the renewal date, you should see “Domain Protection Plan: Full Protection”. Next to this, click the Manage > Downgrade Privacy Protection.
  3. Select the Basic Privacy Protection plan, then confirm.

Get Your Authorization Code

  1. Log into your GoDaddy account and navigate to Your Name > My Products.
  2. Find the domain you wish to transfer and click on it.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Transfer domain away from Godaddy.
  4. Click Continue with transfer.
  5. Select Click here to see Authorization Code, then copy the code you see. This code will also be emailed to the domain contact email address.
Namecheap

Unlock the Domain

  1. Sign in to your Namecheap account.
  2. Select Domain List from the righthand menu.
  3. Click Manage next to the domain you want to transfer.
  4. Select the Sharing & Tranfer
  5. Scroll to the Transfer Out section and find the Domain Lock If domain lock is ON click on UNLOCK.

Get Your Authorization Code

  1. From the same page, click on AUTH CODE to obtain your code needed for transfer.
  2. Enter the transfer reason and submit.
  3. Check the email address listed on the domain’s registration contact for the code.
Domains.com

Unlock the Domain

  1. Log into your Domains.com account.
  2. Find the domain you want to transfer and check the box next to it.
  3. Navigate to Settings > Unlock Domains.
  4. Check the box next to “Yes, I consent to unlock the selected domain(s)”, then click Continue.
  5. Complete the 2-step verification if prompted.

Get Your Authorization Code

  1. Navigate back to your Domain Control Center.
  2. Click on the domain you want to transfer.
  3. Under Additional Settings, click on Transfer domain away from Domains.com.
  4. Click Continue with Transfer.
  5. Click on Click here to see Authorization Code and copy the code you see. This code will also be emailed to the registered domain contact address.
Initiate the Transfer to Vacares

Now you can initiate a domain transfer in your Vacares account.

  1. Navigate to the Domain Transfer Page.
  2. Enter your domain name and the authorization code you got from your registrar.
  3. Click Add to Cart.
  4. Add domain add-ons for more control and security over your domains (highly recommended).
  5. Click Continue and then Checkout.
  6. Fill out your contact details or log into your existing Vacares account, then complete checkout.

Your domain transfer request has been started. It usually takes 5-7 days to complete a domain transfer. You can check the transfer status in your Vacares portal or your current registrar account, and you should receive emails confirming when the transfer is completed.
